THE CHALLENGE
Turn a Real Problem Into a Real Solution
Identify a real-world problem within a community or organization and develop a practical solution to address it. Projects may focus on examples such as the environment, education, technology, healthcare, business, community development, or other relevant areas.
REWARDS
Prize for Winners
Participants who achieve a final average score of 90% or more (Excellent), based on the grading rubric, will receive:
- A $100 USD cash prize
- A Certificate of Recognition
- Publication of their project in FLU's newsletter and on the FLU website
- A letter of recommendation to an employer or organization, where appropriate
- A discretionary scholarship toward another FLU course
BEFORE YOU APPLY
Eligibility and Requirements
- Participants must be current or past FLU students
- Proposed solutions must follow the SMART framework: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound
- Students may participate individually or as a team
- Teams must consist of 2-5 students. Team members will share the cash prize equally, while each member will receive individual recognition
- Each team member must have a clearly defined role and responsibility, which must be explained in both the Google Slides and video presentation
HOW TO ENTER
Submission
Submissions are accepted quarterly throughout the year. Quarterly cycles end on 31 March, 30 June, 30 September, and 31 December. Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. GMT, one week before the end of each quarter – for example, the deadline for the 30 September 2026 cycle is 11:59 p.m. on 23 September 2026.
What to Submit
- First name, last name, and government-issued ID
- Student Number/User ID and Course Taken with FLU
- Team members, if applicable
- Confirmation of the solution by the affected community or organization
- Maximum of 30 slides, excluding supporting documents
- Completed slide template, including a video explaining how your solution works
All submissions are subject to FLU’s eligibility requirements, grading rubric, and review process. FLU reserves the right to verify eligibility, withhold awards where requirements are not met, and modify or discontinue the challenge. Scholarships, recommendations, and publication are discretionary. Participants retain responsibility for ensuring that their projects do not infringe the rights, privacy, or intellectual property of others.
